Pathologies affecting the outflow tract of the urinary system from the renal pelvis to the distal portion of the urethra. The urinary tract or system is concerned with the elaboration and excretion of urine in vertebrates (Fig. 1). Urinary tract disorders, or urologic diseases, can occur in the renal pelvis, ureters, bladder, urethra, or kidneys. One particularly common disorder is a urinary tract infection (UTI), which can take place at any location in the urinary system; however, most infections of this type involve the lower urinary tract (the bladder or urethra).
