Robots in the form of, or with features similar to, human beings. Biped (two-legged) walking is a characteristic of humans; however, even without biped walking, robots that have either an upper body or a face that is similar to that of a human are generally referred to as humanoid robots. In this article, the history of humanoid robots, their significance, and some technical problems common to such robots are introduced. See also: Robotics
