The identification of genes that affect quantitative traits, or more specifically the identification of polymorphisms (multiple forms) within those genes that give rise to variation, is currently a central goal in biology and promises to advance the understanding of such traits and characteristics greatly. Studies are typically performed in humans and model organisms, but the overall goal is the same: How do genes affect behavior?
