A branch of physical chemistry that seeks to explain time-dependent phenomena, such as energy transfer and chemical reaction, in terms of the detailed motion of the nuclei and electrons that constitute the system. As such, chemical dynamics seeks answers to some of the following kinds of questions. Does the reaction produce internally excited products, or is the energy carried away in translational energy? Is the rate of reaction accelerated if a reagent is internally excited? Is reaction confined to a specific site? Could a specific bond be made to react by suitable reagent preparation? Can undesirable side reactions be eliminated? Can these be isotopically selective?
